7 Texas Missing Persons Cases That Remain Unsolved
Angela Abbrederis
Abbrederis was last seen in Dallas, Texas on April 2, 1996. She left behind her vehicle, clothes, luggage, car keys and other personal belongings, and left her dog unattended inside her apartment. There was laundry left in the washing machine and piled on Abbrederis's bed, which is uncharacteristic of her. Red fingerprints near the front door turned out to be paint rather than blood. Abbrederis has never been heard from again.
Abbrederis's boyfriend withdrew money from her savings account, signed over one of her cars to himself, and emptied their joint checking account after her disappearance. He told police he jointly owned all he took. Investigators do not believe his actions necessarily make him a suspect in her case.
At the time of her disappearance, Abbrederis was an exotic dancer in various Dallas clubs. She has one prior conviction for prostitution. Authorities stated that due to her lifestyle, they were uncertain at first as to whether she had come to harm or simply left of her own accord.
Abbrederis previously served in the Army, where she met her husband; they married in 1990 and divorced in 1995. She was very close to one of her sisters and her mother, both of whom live in Michigan, but at the time of her disappearance she was estranged from her father. He lives in Hong Kong. Abbrederis's case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected.
Michael Jefferson Adams
Adams completed his shift at the M-System Food Store on 12th and Mockingbird Street in Abilene, Texas, where he was a clerk, on June 8, 1987. He then returned to his family's residence on Peach Street. His sister saw him at 11:30 p.m. He had just parked his red Datsun 280ZX and was standing next to a dark-colored model two-door vehicle with opera windows in the back and a possible malfunctioning headlight. It was possibly a 1973 - 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Oldsmobile Cutlass or Oldsmobile Toronado. It was idling outside of their home and Adams was leaning into it, talking with its occupant or occupants. He didn't appear apprehensive. His sister assumed he went to bed after that.
The next morning, Adams was discovered missing and his bed didn't appear to have been slept in. He has never been heard from again. His wallet was found on his bedroom floor; he'd evidently left it at the house that morning when he went to work. His Datsun was parked in the driveway, blocking his parents' car. He would usually switch them around when he got home from work.
Two people Adams knew owned cars matching the description of the one seen near his home that night. One was a coworker at M-System and the other was a friend and former classmate. One of these individuals passed a polygraph test; the other's test results were inconclusive. Adams's other friends, coworkers and acquaintances all passed polygraphs. Adams was not involved with drugs and didn't associate with drug users in 1987, and drugs aren't believed to be a factor on his disappearance.
Adams attended Cooper High School, where he was in the drummers and the marching band. He is described as a talented artist and also enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He made excellent grades and graduated high school five months early. He was due move to Lubbock, Texas in three weeks to start classes at Texas Tech University, where he planned to major in architecture. He was close to his family and it's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. Adams was declared legally dead in 1994. He is presumed murdered, but no charges have been filed against anyone in his case.

Melissa Alaniz
Melissa was last seen in El Paso, Texas on March 7, 1987. She went out to play video games at a convenience store off Rushing and never returned to her residence in the 10400 block of Orpheus in the northeast part of the city. She has never been heard from again.
Two weeks earlier, Melissa had run away from home after a family argument. She returned after only two days, however, and authorities don't believe she left of her own accord again when she went missing in March 1987.
That same year, several other females disappeared from El Paso, and most of them were later found murdered and buried in the desert. The victims were all small, slender young women in their teens and early twenties. Melissa and two other girls, Marjorie Knox and Cheryl Vasquez, are still missing. Melissa knew at least one of the murder victims; they attended H.E. Charles Junior High School together. That victim also knew Marjorie. Vasquez had also formerly attended H.E. Charles Junior High School.
David Leonard Wood, a serial rapist who was paroled in January 1987, was later convicted of murdering six of the El Paso victims, though he maintains his innocence to this day. He was sentenced to death in 1993, but his sentence remains under appeal, as his lawyers allege he is mentally retarded.
The murders of El Paso girls and women stopped after Wood's October 1987 arrest for rape. He has not been charged in connection with Melissa's case and it's unclear whether he was involved. A photo of Wood is posted with this case summary. Melissa's disappearance remains unsolved
Ruby Akers
Akers was last seen at the Sherman Nursing Center in Sherman, Texas sometime during January 1986. She was staying there temporarily because she had dislocated her shoulder; she had been there for about two months. Prior to her disappearance, Akers cut her finger and had to get stitches. On the day she went missing, she went to the nurse's station and asked to have the stitches removed.
The nurse said she would assist her after taking care of another resident. Ten minutes later, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the nurse went to help Akers and realized she was gone. Her eyeglasses and dentures were in her room, as was the sweater she always wore. An extensive search of the area turned up no sign of her.
Akers's family stated that although she had moments of confusion in 1986, she was not seriously impaired mentally and was able to live independently. She enjoyed going for walks, had run a washateria business in the area for many years, and was well-known in the neighborhood.
After her disappearance, Akers's family received a few anonymous calls saying Akers had died in the nursing home after she was accidentally given an overdose of the anti-psychotic drug Thorazine. Supposedly her body was hidden afterward. This information has not been confirmed and the caller(s) were never identified.
Akers's case remains unsolved
Elizabeth Ann Allen
Allen was last seen at her home in El Paso, Texas on January 20, 1980. She lived in a second-floor apartment at Fountain Plaza on the west side of the city; she was an assistant manager there and also managed three other apartment complexes.
Between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m., she spoke to her sister on the phone. She may have also had breakfast that day with an unidentified man who had been her date to an awards dinner a few nights before. She has never been heard from again. She left no note behind at home, and hadn't told her loved ones of any travel plans.
On January 24, Allen's white 1971 Ford Thunderbird with suicide doors and the Texas license plate number MNL-431 was found near San Bernardino, California. Photographs of a similar vehicle are posted with this case summary.
Some receipts were inside the vehicle, all of them for charges made to Allen's husband's credit card. He had died two years before. Whoever made the charges forged Allen's husband's signature. The receipts were for gas stations in New Mexico and northern Arizona.
Allen was born in Cleburne, Texas and had four sons. Three of her sons have died in the years following her disappearance; the surviving one lives in California. Her sister is also still alive and looking for her. Investigators believe Allen was abducted, but little evidence is available in her case.

Yousef and his sister Iman were abducted by their mother, Ghada Abdel Fattah Said, from their Euless, Texas home on August 25, 1999. A photograph of Ghada is posted with this case summary. A felony warrant was issued for her on November 17, 1999, nearly three months after she abducted Yousef and Iman.
She had custody of them at the time she took them, but by leaving with the children she deprived their father, Hirsham Almetnawy, of his visitation rights. Ghada, Iman and Yousef may be traveling in a silver 1989 Honda CRS with the Texas license plate number YCJ05P. They may be in New York, Tennessee, California, or Egypt.
